Circa 1930 Bambino Tobacco Tin
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $812.00
Attractive mid-grade example of this classic baseball tobacco tin. The striking design of the Bambino tin, which features a black and white silhouette of the Babe's mighty swing set against a bright red background, has always made this a favorite among baseball and advertising collectors. It is interesting to note that Bambino Smoking Tobacco was not actually endorsed by Ruth. By using only one of Ruth's many nicknames ("Bambino") and picturing a silhouette instead of a more detailed image, Bailey Brothers, Inc., the tobacco company that produced Bambino, was able to avoid paying royalties for Ruth's formal endorsement. Tobacco tins rarely survive without some scrapes, chips, and rust. The folding white metal lid top has a chip missing and some oxidation, but the body of the tin itself is bright and clean, with some minor rust spots, or scrapes to the paint. This is a very pleasing mid-grade example, ideal for display, in Very Good condition. Dimensions: 4.5 x 3.25 inches. Accompanying the tin is a rare original pack of Bambino cigarette rolling papers which also features the Bambino Smoking Tobacco logo, with an area of paper loss to outer wrapper, otherwise in Gd condition, and ideal for display with the tin. Total 2 items. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $812.00
