Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $812.00
Collection of four rare baseball cigar boxes: 1) Circa 1900 "Blue Ball" cigars features a very colorful interior label picturing a large blue baseball in the center with a landscape background, and a tennis player and golfer on either side. A smaller exterior label with the same image has considerable wear and appears on the side of the box. 2) 1910 "Old Chemung" cigar box features an extremely colorful interior label with a batter framed by a baseball diamond. A smaller exterior label with baseballs and bats appears on the side of the box. 3) Circa 1910 "Lookout Crooks" manufactured by Stagmaier & Co. of Chattanooga, with an illustration of a pitcher, batter, and catcher on both the interior paper label and on top of the lid. 4) 1910 "Three Bagger" Wooden Cigar Box. Oversized wooden cigar box for "Three Bagger" brand cigars with extremely detailed game-in-progress scene on both the interior paper label and on top of the lid. Tax stamps are dated 1910. There is some moisture staining on all four outer sides as well as the inside of the box and the top of the lid. The interior paper label, however, is free of any defects and presents beautifully. This is a particularly unusual and intriguing early cigar box, ideal for display. The collection is in Very Good condition overall. The measurements range from 6.75 to 14.5 inches in length and 5.5 to 6 inches in width. Four very scarce and high quality baseball cigar boxes, each with great display value and dating from the turn of the century. Total 4 boxes. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $812.00
