1887 N172 Old Judge Cap Anson - Portrait - The Finest in Existence

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $31,900.00

The one and only N172 Cap Anson graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. This extraordinary card is the highest graded 1887 N172 Old Judge example in the world of Cap Anson. This is the only N172 Cap Anson graded at this level, with none graded higher. As nineteenth-century card collectors are well aware, it is extremely rare to find even a common N172 Old Judge graded NM-MT by PSA, let alone a key Hall of Famer. The fact that Cap Anson is the premier star of the nineteenth century, and the key Hall of Famer in the Old Judge set, makes this ultra high-grade example one of card collecting's most significant cards. We may never see another example of Cap Anson graded PSA NM-MT 8. This is a simply outstanding card in all respects. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with virtually flawless square corners, and with spectacular contrast. The extraordinary contrast of the photograph on this card is of special note as the N172 Anson is particularly prone to fading and poor photo quality. The highest graded N172 Old Judge of Cap Anson in existence, this is the world's finest example of one of the nineteenth-century's most desirable and classic cards. This is a card which would be a significant highlight in any of the world's greatest card collections, including even the most advanced Old Judge, nineteenth-century, or Hall of Famer card collection. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000. SOLD FOR $31,900.00
