1934 Tour of Japan Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,060.00
In 1934 Connie Mack led a group of Major League players on a highly publicized postseason goodwill Tour of Japan. That much celebrated tour is especially noteworthy as it was the only overseas tour in which both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig participated. Offered is a red-and-black stitched "General League Ball" (manufactured by Kurimoto & Co. in Tokyo, Japan) signed in green ink by fifteen members of that famous 1934 overseas tour. Babe Ruth's signature majestically graces the sweet spot and grades a "5." Other signatures include Lou Gehrig ("5"), Connie Mack ("7"), Jimmie Foxx ("7"), Moe Berg ("6"), Charlie Gehringer ("6"), Earl Averill ("5"), Lefty Gomez ("6"), Bing Miller ("7"), Rabbit Warstler ("8"), Eric McNair ("8"), Clint Brown ("3"), Frank Hayes ("6"), Joe Cascarella ("2"), and one other we could not identify. This special Japanese-made baseball is accompanied by its extremely rare original red drum-shaped box (light wear from handling, otherwise in Excellent condition) which is particularly impressive and ideal for display with the ball. The ball is lightly soiled and otherwise in Excellent condition overall, with bright stitching, and very bold and distinct ball manufacturer stampings. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
