Non-Hall of Famer Single-Signed Baseball Collection (70)
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,160.00
Represented within this spectacular collection of seventy single-signed baseballs are many notable players and former stars, all of whom have one thing in common: they have not been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Despite that fact, most of the signatures offered here should be instantly recognizable to even the most casual of fans and the grouping as a whole makes for an exceptional collection of single-signed balls. One especially noteworthy highlight is a ball single-signed by Curt Flood, whose historical importance and impact on the game make him a Hall of Famer in the minds of many, whether or not he is ever honored in Cooperstown. Unless otherwise noted, all of the balls are either Official American (Brown) or National (Giamatti) League balls (each housed in its original box) and have been signed in blue ink across the sweet spot. Forty-two different players are represented with the collection, with the number of signed examples for each player (if more than one) noted in parenthesis. The collection is comprised of the following players: Jack Aker (2), Hank Bauer (2), George Bell (2), Johnny Blanchard (2), Johnny Callison (4, two are signed on the side panel), Chris Chambliss (2), Chuck Conners, Bud Daley (2), Tommy Davis (2), Curt Flood, Cliff Johnson (2), Charlie Keller, Ed Kranepool, Johnny Kucks (2), Don Larsen, Billy Loes, Hector Lopez (2), Lindy McDaniel (2, one twice signed), Von McDaniel (2), Mickey McDermott, Gil McDougald (2), Bobby Murcer, Mickey Owen, Joe Pepitone, Jim Perry (2), Boog Powell, Hal Reniff (2), Bobby Richardson, Dusty Rhodes, Pete Rose (on a Giamatti ball), Hank Sauer (2), Herb Score (2), Roy Sievers (2), Moose Skowron, Mel Stottlemyre (3), Craig Swan (2), Bill Virdon (2), Harry Walker, Rube Walker, Stan Williams (2), Maury Wills (2) and Gene Woodling (2). The signatures in the collection were assembled in person by the consignor in the late 1980s. Approximately 25% of the balls display some minor age toning, otherwise all are in Near Mint or Mint condition. The signatures have all been boldly penned, grading "9/10" overall. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Total: 70 balls. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
