1962 Roger Maris Inscribed First Edition of Roger Maris At Bat

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $580.00

1962 first edition of Roger Maris At Bat inscribed by Maris in blue ink on the front flyleaf, "To Craig Duerr Best Wishes Roger Maris." Both the personalization and signature have been flawlessly penned by the famed slugger and grade "10." Accompanying the book are two significant vintage items relating to its signing. The first is a black-and-white photo (3.5 x 3.5 inches) of Maris seated in a bookstore signing copies of this book (probably signing this very book). The second companion piece to the photo is the original sales receipt, dated April 1, 1962 from Jordan Marsh, in Florida. What is unique and all the more noteworthy about the sales receipt is that scripted on the reverse is the notation "To Craig Duerr," with the name "Duerr" carefully printed in parenthesis next to the scripted name. This receipt was obviously filled out by the recipient or a store employee at the time of the purchase and book signing, and handed to Maris with the book so there would be no error in the spelling of the name. The book, published in 1962 by Duell, Sloan and Pearce, New York, is complete with its original dust jacket. The book has a light water stain and tape stains on both the front and rear flyleaves (not directly affecting the inscription) and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. The dust jacket is in Excellent condition. This is an outstanding vintage Roger Maris signed item dating from the height of his fame and popularity in 1962. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $580.00
