Circa 1954 Branch Rickey Signed Baseball - Displays as a Single
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,044.00
As most seasoned autograph collectors are well aware, Branch Rickey single-signed baseballs are exceedingly rare, almost to the point of being nonexistent (we have never seen one). Offered here is an outstanding alternative to that single signed "Holy Grail" of autograph collecting: a Branch Rickey signed baseball that displays beautifully as a single-signed ball. Rickey's signature, scripted in black ink ("9"), sits alone on the side panel of this white official Little League baseball. The other signatures which appear on the ball are those of Hall of Famer George Sisler (blue ink, "8") and manager (and former player) Fred Haney (black ink, "10"), both situated together on the sweet spot, and famed Pittsburgh Pirates owner John Galbreath (blue ink, "10"), whose signature appears alone on a side panel. This ball was obviously signed sometime between the years 1953 and 1955, when all four individuals were employed together by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rickey was general manager of the Pirates from 1950 to 1959, while Haney managed the club from 1953 to 1955. Sisler was a scout and minor league instructor for the Pirates from 1951 until his death in 1973. The ball displays a few tiny spots of light discoloration and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
