1942 American League All-Star Team Signed Ball With Williams and DiMaggio

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,972.00

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in either blue or black ink by twenty-five members of the 1942 American League All-Star team. The signatures appearing on the ball are those of Ted Williams ("8", sweet spot), Hal Newhouser (sweet spot), Joe DiMaggio ("6"), Bob Doerr, Lou Boudreau, Phil Rizzuto, Joe McCarthy (clubhouse, mgr.), Red Ruffing, Tex Hughson, John Schulte, Rudy York, Eddie Smith, Dom DiMaggio, Bob Johnson, Tom Henrich, Ernie Bonham, George McQuinn, Joe Gordon, Spud Chandler, Sid Hudson, Al Benton, Ken Keltner, Jim Bagby Jr., Stan Spence, and Birdie Tebbetts. Signatures range in grade from "5" to "8", averaging "7." The 1942 All-Star game, played at the Polo Grounds in New York, witnessed the American League defeating its National rivals by a score of 3-1. With that victory, the American League not only won their seventh (out of ten) "midsummer classic" but also earned the honor of facing an All-Star team made up of U.S. servicemen the following day. This is a remarkably complete ball and includes every player on the roster with the exception of Hal Wagner and Buddy Rosar, both of whom did not appear in the game. The ball stampings are light, yet legible. The ball is lightly toned, displaying two small remnants of adhesive tape on the ball label (not affecting the signatures), and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition overall. The strong sweet spot signature of Ted Williams makes this particularly impressive and ideal for display as a wartime All-Star game ball. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,972.00
