1939 Hall of Fame Induction Signed Baseballs with Babe Ruth (2)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $16,240.00

June 12, 1939 will always remain as one of the most historic days in baseball. This date marks the start of a tradition awarding the highest honor associated with our national pastime. It was the day the legendary first five members were inducted into the sacred Hall, and the day the Hall of Fame and museum first opened its doors to the public. Offered are two Spalding "Hall of Fame" baseballs signed by baseball's legends at that historic ceremony, presenting a total of 31 signatures (20 on one ball and 12 on the other). 1) The signatures on the first ball are Babe Ruth ("9"), Walter Johnson ("7"), Mel Ott ("8"), Tris Speaker ("9"), Judge Landis (sweet spot, "4"), Ford Frick ("6"), Lloyd Waner ("8"), Eddie Collins ("4"), Dizzy Dean ("7/8"), Arky Vaughan ("7/8"), Billy Herman ("7"), Joe Medwick ("9"), Johnny Vander Meer ("6"), Terry Moore ("6"), Morris Arnovich ("6"), Dan MacFayden ("7"), Eddie Miller ("6"), Cookie Lavagetto ("7"), Jimmie Wilson ("7"), and one other that is illegible. This remarkable ball displays magnificently with Ruth, Ott, Johnson, and Speaker sharing the same side panel. The ball is off-white with just the slightest hint of toning. Bold and distinct manufacturing stampings. In Excellent to Mint condition. 2) The signatures on the second ball feature Larry Lajoie (very tiny chip out of the ball which approaches the second "R" in his first name [Larry], "8/9"), Cy Young ("8/9"), William Harridge ("6/7"), Judge Landis ("8/9"), Mrs. Christy Mathewson ("6"), Mrs. John J. McGraw ("5"), and six others we could not decipher. While the first ball with Ruth may represent the lion's share of the value of this lot, the second ball is an ideal accompaniment and displays well with Lajoie and Young sharing the same side panel. The second ball has some separations along the seam and some minor surface abrasions, but is otherwise in Excellent condition. All of the most important signatures on both baseballs are clearly legible with only a few lighter. Each of the balls in this lot individually is an extraordinary signed baseball. Together they represent an extremely substantial and unique tribute to baseball's exclusive "Hall of Fame" club. Also included is the official program from this historical event. The covers have detached from the program, otherwise in Excellent condition. Total 2 balls plus program. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000.
