1939 Babe Ruth Signed Letter In Framed Display
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,060.00
In 1939 an ardent autograph seeker sent Babe Ruth a letter asking him if he would consent to sign three enclosed 1939 Hall of Fame first-day covers. He also inquired if Ruth knew the New York address of Grover Alexander, for he was seeking to acquire the signatures of the eleven then-living inductees to the newly opened Baseball Hall of Fame. Offered here is that original typed letter to Ruth, dated June 17, 1939, that includes Ruth's handwritten reply along the base. Ruth responded to the gentleman, "I have no idea where of the players live," and signed his reply simply "Babe." Both Ruth's inscription and the signature are scripted in blue fountain pen, grading a virtually flawless "9." It is assumed that Ruth also dutifully signed the three enclosed first-day covers; however, they are not included here. The letter (8.25 x 10.75 inches) displays a number of vertical and horizontal fold lines and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. It has been beautifully framed together with two large black-and-white photos of Ruth to total dimensions of 43 x 27 inches. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
