Circa 1935 Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed by "Lou Gehrig" in black ink ("6") on a side panel. Gehrig's signature currently sits alone on this ball, though a number of additional signatures have been professionally removed from the ball. While some purists may deride that practice, sometimes, as in this case, the ends appear to justify the means. The removal of those signatures has created, albeit artificially, one of the true "gems" of the hobby: a single-signed Lou Gehrig ball. As most collectors are well aware, single-signed Lou Gehrig balls are not only extremely rare, but also quite expensive, almost to the point of being unobtainable by the average collector. Examples such as this, while not "single signed" in the literal sense, offer the same aesthetic appeal and serve to fill a real need for many collectors. It must be noted that the former signatures are not visible with the naked eye, though the fact that signatures have been removed can easily be seen when the ball is examined under a black light. The ball features bold manufacturer's stampings and is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
