Circa 1930 Jimmie Foxx Signed George Burke Photo
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,204.00
Tremendous early 1930s George Burke original matte-finish photograph (8 x 10 inches) featuring Jimmie Foxx at bat, beautifully signed and inscribed "To Chelsea Country Club, Jimmie Foxx, The Finest Spot in Del. Co" ("8") in black fountain pen. This is a top-quality original vintage photograph by George Burke, one of the few universally recognized masters of baseball photography. Burke's credit stamp appears in the center of the reverse. "The Beast," as Foxx was often known, was one of the most feared sluggers of all time, racking up 534 home runs, 1,922 RBIs, 1,751 runs and a .325 lifetime batting average over twenty seasons. From 1929 to 1940, Foxx hit 30 or more home runs and drove in at least 105 runs every year. Foxx signed photographs of this size and quality are extremely rare. There are a few minor touches of surface chipping in the upper right corner of the reverse which we mention strictly for the sake of extreme accuracy. This is an extraordinary Foxx signed original photograph, with a huge signature and ideal placement. Excellent condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,204.00
