Walter Johnson Single-Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $6,960.00

Red and blue stitched Reach "Special League Ball" signed across the sweet spot by legendary hurler Walter Johnson. Baseball's famed "Big Train" has beautifully scripted his name in black ink, with the signature grading "6." The surface of the ball is lightly soiled; however, Johnson's signature contrasts beautifully against the light background of the ball's surface. All of the manufacturer's stampings remain bold and distinct. One of the first five inductees into Baseball's Hall of Fame, Johnson's reputation as the hardest thrower of his era is well attested to by his lifetime total of 3,509 strikeouts. While that record has since been broken by a number of hurlers, it should be noted that Johnson's strikeout mark stood the test of time for fifty-six years, until Nolan Ryan first bested it in 1983. The ball is accompanied by its original retail box (Vg). We have always considered Johnson's signature to be among the most difficult to find on a single-signed ball among the first five Hall of Fame inductees. This is an exceptional never-before-offered single-signed baseball penned by one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $6,960.00
