1961 Bell Brand Dodgers Complete Set: #1 PSA Registry! (20)

Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $5,510.00

Unbelievably high-grade complete twenty-card set of 1961 Bell Brand Potato Chip cards. This is the finest set in the world and the number-one set on the PSA Registry! This very scarce set featuring Dodgers players was issued regionally only in the Los Angeles area, and captures the team just as they were poised to dominate the National League in the early to mid-1960s. One card was packaged in a thin cellophane wrapper with each bag of Bell Brand Potato Chips. As a result of the the product with which they were packaged, heavy grease stains and creases are common with this issue, making it all the more difficult to assemble a high-grade set. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes fourteen PSA 8s, five PSA 7s, and one PSA 6. The PSA registry overall weighted GPA rating is 7.73. A set like this does not just happen to come together by chance, especially for Bell Brands. This set has been assembled by an extremely dedicated collector over a period of ten years. This is an extraordinary set. The PSA grades are as follows: Fourteen NM-MT 8: #3 W. Davis, 4 Snider, 8 Roseboro, 11 Lillis, 14 Hodges, 16 Demeter, 19 Gilliam, 22 Podres, 24 Alston, 34 N. Sherry, 32 Koufax, 38 Craig, 43 Neal, and 51 L. Sherry. Five NM 7: #5 Larker, 9 Moon, 12 T. Davis, 30 Wills, and 37 Roebuck. One EX-MT 6: #40 Williams. SMR values are somewhat modest for Bell Brands, especially considering their scarcity. As of this writing, the 1961 Bell Brand Koufax PSA 8, for example, lists in the SMR for $550, and only four Koufax cards have been graded at that level in the history of PSA. In comparison, 296 examples of 1961 Topps card #344 Koufax have been graded PSA 8 NM-MT. The total SMR value for the twenty individual cards is currently $2,538. It is our experience that a vintage set such as this, in such extraordinary high grade, let alone the highest-graded set ever assembled, may be valued by the market at a significant premium to SMR. Total 20 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500+. SOLD FOR $5,510.00
