1952 Topps Complete Set (407)
Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $40,600.00
1952 Topps complete set of 407 cards. This is an extremely attractive, very carefully assembled, very clean, fairly high-grade set, rarely offered so nice as a complete set, with many rare high numbers and most key cards in particularly high grade. While the condition of cards from this set spans several grades, even the lesser-graded cards are very pleasing and exhibit bright colors and crisp focus. The Mantle is the only weak card in the set in terms of condition, and even that card has a far superior appearance to its extremely harsh grade of PR-FR 1 by PSA (we grade this card Good). The low numbers (#1-310) grade as follows: 86% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), and 14% Vg (with a few slightly lesser). The rare high numbers (#311-407) grade as follows: 66% range from Vg-Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex), 34% Vg (with a few slightly lesser). We have selected thirty cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. Nine additional cards have also been graded by SGC (three grade NM+ 86 [ #3, 264, 265]; and six grade NM 84 [#213, 220, 253, 262, 284, 293]). Low-Number Keys (1-310): #1 Pafko (PSA GOOD 2), 2 Runnels (PSA EX-MT 6 [MK]), 11 Rizzuto (Ex), 20 Loes RC (Ex), 22 DiMaggio (25/75 L/R, otherwise Ex), 26 Irvin (Ex), 29 Kluszewski (PSA EX-MT 6), 33 Spahn (PSA EX-MT 6), 36 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 37 Snider (75/25 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), 48 Page/correct (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex to Ex-Mt), 49 Sain/correct (75/25 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 57 Lopat (rubber stamp on back, otherwise Ex), 59 Roberts (Vg-Ex), 65 Slaughter (Vg), 66 Roe (75/25 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), 67 Reynolds (20/80 L/R, otherwise Vg), 88 Feller (PSA EX 5), 91 Schoendienst (stain on the top left border, otherwise Ex), 122 Jensen (PSA EX 5), 129 Mize (Ex), 175 Martin RC (Vg-Ex/Ex), 191 Berra (back damage, otherwise Vg), 195 Minoso RC (Ex-Mt), 215 Bauer (80/20 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 216 Ashburn (Vg-Ex/Ex), 227 Garagiola (Ex), 243 Doby (Vg), 246 Kell (30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex), 250 Erskine (Ex), 261 Mays (PSA EX 5), 268 Lemon (85/15 T/B, otherwise Ex), 277 Wynn (date rubber stamp on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), 305 (PSA EX-MT 6). High-Number Keys (#311-407): 311 Mantle (PSA PR-FR 1), 312 Robinson (PSA VG 3), 313 Thomson (PSA EX 5), 314 Campanella (PSA EX 5), 315 Durocher (80/20 T/B, otherwise Vg), 321 Black RC (Vg bordering Vg-Ex), 325 High # (PSA NM 7), 329 High # (PSA EX-MT 6), 331 High # (PSA EX-MT 6), 333 Reese (PSA EX-MT 6), 342 Labine RC (Ex), 344 Blackwell (PSA EX-MT 6), 347 Adcock (PSA EX-MT 6), 351 Dark (Vg-Ex/Ex), 356 High # (PSA NM 7), 357 Burgess (PSA EX 5), 369 Groat RC (PSA EX 5), 372 McDougald RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 382 Jones RC (Vg bordering Vg-Ex), 384 Crosetti (Gd-Vg), 385 High # (PSA NM 7), 392 Wilhelm RC (PSA VG-EX 4), 394 Herman (PSA EX 5), 395 High # (PSA NM 7), 396 Williams RC (Vg-Ex), 397 High # (PSA EX-MT 6), and 400 Dickey (PSA EX 5), 406 Nuxhall RC (PSA VG-EX 4), and 407 Mathews (PSA VG 3). The amazing thing about a quality mid to high-grade 1952 Topps set such as this is the outstanding value it offers compared to cards in higher grade, as well as the comfort provided by the natural potential "break value" associated with such a set. This is a rarely offered, very pleasing mixed-grade complete set of one of baseball card collecting's premier issues, with numerous significant highlights. The SMR value for just the twenty-four PSA NM 7s, EX-MT 6s, and EX 5s in this set (of the thirty cards we sent in for PSA grading) is $7,025. This subtotal is just for twenty-four cards and does not include the other 383 cards (which include the lower-graded PSA cards including Mantle, the SGC graded cards, and a total of 80 high numbers). Total 407 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000. SOLD FOR $40,600.00
