1949 Leaf #3 Babe Ruth PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $6,380.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Presented is an exceptionally high grade example of this Babe Ruth classic. The 1949 Leaf Bubble Gum card of Ruth is one of the most popular and striking of all Babe Ruth cards. It is on virtually every short list of the most classic and recognizable of all postwar baseball cards. The cards manufactured by Leaf Gum Co. in 1948 and 1949 are sometimes technically in high grade, but with serious problems related to the unusual and often inconsistent Leaf printing process. Usually it's the toning; if not the toning, it's the focus; and if not the focus, it's print dots. The offered card is exceptional in all of these respects. The clean, white borders of this card frame a virtually flawless image which is centered just a touch to the bottom and 40/60 left to right. All four corners appear Mint at first glance; only close inspection with a high-powered lens reveals just a hint of wear at the extreme tips of the corners. The reverse is clean and free of staining or excess print. This is a very attractive example of one of the icons of postwar card collecting. This classic card has always been a favorite with collectors and is rarely found in this high grade. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $6,380.00
