1920s Babe Ruth Card Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $1,392.00

Three unusual Babe Ruth cards from three different sets from the 1920s: 1) 1921 Schapira Bros. Candy Babe Ruth (portrait). Rare candy box package design card from set issued one card per box. Attractive red, white and blue design. Each card measures 1-5/8 x 2-3/8 inches and features Babe Ruth. This portrait card has instructions to "Send 250 of these pictures to Schapira Bros. Inc. E. 135th St. New York City" to "Get a Base Ball Autographed By Babe Ruth." Vg-Ex/Ex condition. 2) 1922 W573 Babe Ruth. These "strip cards" were issued in vertical strips of ten for a penny. The cards are blank-backed and are similar in design to the popular E120 American Caramel set. Because the cards were hand-cut from strips, the borders tend to vary in size. This example has a large bottom border and virtually no right border. Vg-Ex condition overall. 3) 1927 W560 Babe Ruth. Yellow variation. Excellent condition. There are few cards of Ruth dating from the 1920s. The modest production quality of most cards in this era has kept these cards relatively affordable, though the excellent value they represent and the distinctive qualities of these issues have earned them a growing appreciation among advanced collectors in recent years. All three of these cards are the key cards from their respective sets. Total 3 cards. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,392.00
