1911 T205 Gold Border P. J. Moran - Stray Line of Type

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,972.00

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Seven graded at this level with only three examples graded higher. Very high-grade example of the rare T205 "Stray Line of Type" variation of P. J. Moran, Phillies. This card was issued with and without a "stray line of type" on the reverse. This variation, with stray line, is by far the rarer of the two, and one of the rarest of all T205 Gold Borders. The card is extremely high grade for T205, with just the lightest wear at the tips of the corners only, and with otherwise virtually flawless gold borders. The borders are particularly large on this card, which is centered very slightly to the top. It is bright and perfectly clean, both front and back. The crisp, clean back, of course, is particularly desirable for this card. There appears to be no formal consensus of value in guides on this rarity. The only example we have seen at auction recently was in a slightly higher grade (PSA EX-MT 6) and reportedly sold for over $6,000. We have estimated the card conservatively and are confident the auction process will provide clarity with reference to value. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,972.00
