1909-1911 T206 Frank Smith - Chicago & Boston - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $8,120.00
Graded NM 7 by PSA. Smith, Chicago & Boston Amer. variation. This is the highest-graded and only NM 7 example of this significant T206 rarity. Since the days of Jefferson Burdick and before, this team-designation variation has always been recognized as one of the important rarities of the T206 set. This is a remarkably high-grade example. Most T206s, of course, have survived in far lesser condition, and when dealing with any of the few cards in the set with a notable degree of extra rarity, a high-grade example naturally has a special premium value to collectors. The offered card is extremely bright and crisp, and presents a strong and impressive image of Smith. This card has sharp corners, perfect registration, and is centered slightly to the left (approximately 62/38). The back is also bright and clean, with bold red advertising print for Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. In addition to being an important card in the T206 set, this card is also especially appreciated for its strong visual appeal. We have found that the auction selling prices of cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as the T206 White Borders. We have very little doubt that this will be the case with this extraordinary card, the highest-ever graded T206 example of Smith, Chicago & Boston Amer. SMR is $1,100. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $8,120.00
