1966 "Batman" Original Card Artwork (Norm Saunders) #13A "Out On A Limb"
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $9,860.00
Presented is the original artwork to card #13A, entitled "Out On A Limb" from the 1966 Topps "Batman" card set. Batman took the world by storm in 1966 with the introduction of the wildly popular Batman television series. Topps joined the bandwagon with several series of card sets devoted to the Caped Crusader. This is a tremendous artwork from this classic 1960s card set, featuring a particularly elaborate scene including Batman, doing what he does best, rescuing a damsel in distress. This is a great action scene. Batman is "flying" by hanging onto a rope, which has been dropped from the Batplane flying above, and he is rescuing a leggy brunette hanging from a tree limb on the side of a cliff. This artwork has it all. The painting features the primary character, great action, tremendous background detail, and is the work of the legendary Norm Saunders. The gouache-on-cardboard artwork measures 3-3/8 x 4.75 inches and is accompanied by an example of the issued card. This is an exceptional and extremely rare top-quality original artwork from one of the most popular of all Topps non-sport issues. Ex-Mt. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $9,860.00
