1954 Topps "Scoop" Original Card Artwork #111
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,856.00
1954 Topps "Scoop" original watercolor painting (5 x 3.5 inches) used to produce card #111 entitled "Declaration of Independence." This is an exceptional artwork from one of the all-time classic non-sport issues. Each card in the 1954 Topps "Scoop" set features an illustration of a great event in American history accompanied by a miniature "newspaper headline" and story on the reverse. This is an extremely noteworthy card from this set, which is so highly regarded both for its beautiful artwork and significant content, as it features the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The famous image depicts John Hancock seated at the table with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams standing in front. The "newspaper headline" of the back of the card boldly announces "Independence Declared." The artwork is extremely detailed, with brilliant colors, and includes additional image area which was cropped out by Topps on the issued card. "Scoop" artworks are extremely rare. This example and the other three "Scoop" artworks presented in this auction are the first original paintings from this extremely popular early 1950s set we have ever offered. The artwork is in Near Mint condition and is accompanied by an example of the issued card. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,856.00
