1982 Claes Oldenburg Colossal Flashlight in Place of the Hoover Dam Signed Lithograph

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00

Created by noted pop artist Claes Oldenburg, this multicolor lithograph, titled Colossal Flashlight in Place of the Hoover Dam, pictures just that. A large flashlight is seen stretched out over a portion of Lake Mead and the Nevada desert where Hoover Dam now stands. In this humorous work, Oldenburg points out how certain forms of technology, often created at great expense, can be quickly made obsolete by future inventions (electricity giving way to batteries). The litho (23.5 x 32.25) has been signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right and is hand numbered "95/100." Near Mint to Mint condition. The piece has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 33.5 x 42.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
