1970 Duane Allman and Berry Oakley (Allman Brothers) Signed Checks (2)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,624.00

Offered are two checks signed, respectively, by Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, two of the original members of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. Each of the checks, drawn on The Peoples Bank of Macon, Georgia, is from the band's business account and is labeled "The Allman Bros. Band - General Account." The first, dated April 1, 1970, is made out to the Minneapolis Musicians Association in the amount of $2.10 and has been signed by "Duane Allman" in black felt-tip pen. The second, dated June 9, 1970, is made out to the Musicians Mutual Protective Union in the amount of $11.26 and has been signed by "Raymond Berry Oakley" in blue ink. The Allman Brothers Band was formed in 1969 and originally included Duane Allman (slide guitar), Gregg Allman (vocals, organ), Dickey Betts (guitar), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums) and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). One of the first and most influential of the Southern Rock groups, the band enjoyed wide critical success during their first two years. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the group in 1971 when Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia. The following year, guitarist Berry Oakley also passed away in a motorcycle accident, the mishap occurring just three blocks from the site of Duane's fatal crash. Despite the losses, the band continued on, and later recorded two of its most highly acclaimed hits, Ramblin' Man and Jessica. In 1995 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of the most successful groups of all time, their appeal spans generations, and they continue to tour to this day. Because of their early and unexpected passings, the signatures of both Duane Allman and Berry Oakley are very rare, and are particularly desirable in this form. Both checks measure 8.25 x 3 inches and grade Nr-Mt, with normal cancellation stamps on the front and reverse. Each signature grades "10." An outstanding pair of rare checks signed by two of the original members of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. LOA from Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
