1964 Walt Disney Signed Letter
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,624.00
One-page typed letter signed by Walt Disney (1901-66), animation pioneer and creator of Mickey Mouse. The letter, dated October 12, 1964 and written on his personal stationery, is addressed to a Mr. Eisman and reads in full: "I have just received the inscribed copy of 'THE PORTABLE THOREAU' as edited by Carl Bode, which you sent along with your letter about your trip to Concord last year. Although I have not yet had a chance to do more than glance at the book, I am sure I will enjoy having it in my library and appreciate your consideration in bringing it to my attention. With all best wishes. Sincerely, Walt Disney [signed]." We will never know if, between making cartoons and creating theme parks, Disney ever had the opportunity to read Thoreau, though Disney did have a great interest in philosophy and politics. Disney's stylized blue-ink signature has been scripted in his usual grandiose style and grades "10." The letter (7.25 x 10.25 inches) displays two horizontal mailing folds and is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200.
