1958 Marilyn Monroe Signed Check
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00
Bank check, dated October 2, 1958, signed by Marilyn Monroe. The check, drawn on The First National City Bank of New York, is made out to Marilyn Monroe Productions Inc. in the amount of $1,000 and is beautifully signed "Marilyn Monroe" in blue ink ("9"). Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc. was formed in the mid 1950s by Monroe and photographer Milton Greene. At the time, it was the first production company headed by a woman, and its formation was in direct response to the increasingly unappealing film roles she was receiving from 20th Century-Fox. In 1956 the company produced Bus Stop, one of Monroe's most critically acclaimed films, and followed that up the next year with The Prince and the Showgirl, in which she starred opposite Sir Laurence Olivier. The check (6.24 x 2.75 inches) was never cashed and bears no bank cancellation stamps. A two-inch vertical tear, extending downward from the top border has been repaired on the reverse with clear tape and is now barely noticeable. A light rust-colored paper clip impression is visible in the upper left corner. Neither of those flaws affects the signature or the exceptional visual appeal of the piece. Technically in Very Good condition, but reflecting an Excellent overall appearance. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
