1920s "Punch-A-Bag" Boxing Arcade Game
Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $5,800.00
This rare 1920s coin-op amusement game, manufactured by Shefras of London, has a boxing theme and is designed to measure the strength of one's punch. Titled, "Punch-A-Bag," the game features a punching bag suspended from a top platform. Located along the back of the center stanchion is a large circular dial that records the strength of one's punch, measured in pounds. One coin gets you one punch and, as noted on the original instructions, any punch registering over 1,500 lbs. will ring the bell. This amusement was most likely a huge moneymaker for the owner, as most men (especially those in the company of their dates) wouldn't dare think of walking away without having proved their virility by ringing the bell at least once. This is an extraordinary example of one of the great classics of coin-op machines. The game is in working condition and remains in its original state. Excellent condition overall. 78 inches in height. Please Note: due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping charges may be substantial. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $5,800.00
