1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Hall of Famer Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $7,540.00
Collection of three 1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Hall of Famers, each of which have an Excellent appearance, but which have been downgraded by SGC due to very minor technical considerations: 1) Ed Delahanty. Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive card with just a little corner rounding, very little border wear (primarily in the upper right corner), an extremely fine hairline crease in the lower left corner, and the lightest, most insignificant remnant of glue on the blank reverse from removal from a scrapbook long ago. This is a magnificent card which is bordering on Excellent. 2) Billy Hamilton. Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. The card has a particularly bold portrait. Centered very slightly to the right, with just a hint of wear at the extreme tips of the corners, and a few small scattered edge nicks to the black borders. This is a very sharp-looking card which has been severely downgraded by SGC due to a small area of paper loss at the top of the reverse, probably the result of long ago being removed from an album. 3) Kid Nichols. Graded VG 40 by SGC. Sharp-looking card with virtually no wear to the corners or edges, outstanding image with perfect clarity, and centered 20/80 L/R. This card has also been downgraded due to some extremely minor remnants of scrapbook removal on reverse. Three exceptionally attractive Hall of Famers from N300 Mayo's Cut Plug, the premier baseball card set from the 1890s, each with an appearance stronger than suggested by its technically accurate assigned grade. Total 3 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $7,540.00
