Circa 1880 E. & H. T. Anthony of New York Camera
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $580.00
Early studio plate camera, circa 1880, manufactured by E. & H. T. Anthony Company of New York. The E. & H. T. Anthony company is particularly well known as it produced for sale many popular CDV photographs of famous people, including reproductions of many images taken by Matthew Brady. In the early days of photography, the tools of the trade were very different than in modern times. This rear-focus camera is exceptionally large by today's standards and features a sliding mount and black rubber bellows to facilitate its push-pull design. While the camera was manufactured by E. & H. T. Anthony, one of the leading suppliers of photographic equipment during the late 1800s, the lens was produced by E. Stuer, Basel, Switzerland. This is a fascinating curiosity with tremendous display value, and with a quality and finish similar to a fine piece of furniture. The camera measures 21.5 (W) x 18 (D) x 27.5 (H) inches and extends to fifty inches when opened fully. The piece remains in its original, unrestored state and displays normal wear commensurate with its age and former use. Very Good condition overall. Please Note: due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping charges may be substantial. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $580.00
