1904 Supreme Court Display Photograph
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $464.00
Stunning large-format professional studio display photograph, measuring an extremely impressive 18.25 x 13 inches, captures all nine members of the 1904 Supreme Court. Pictured in the formal studio photograph are Oliver Wendell Holmes, Rufus Peckham, Joseph McKenna, William Day, Henry Brown, John Harlan, Melville Fuller (Chief Justice), David Brewer, and Edward White. The name of the photography studio ("C.M. Bell Photograph Co.") and the copyright date ("1904") are printed in the lower right corner. Interestingly, eight of the nine justices pictured here sat on the 1907 Supreme Court bench, where they presided over the only criminal trial (Shipp Trial) in the history of the Supreme Court. This is an extraordinary piece and would be ideal for display in a home or office library, as intended. The photo has a few tiny abrasions of no consequence (on the leg of Edward White and along the upper border) and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 28.25 x 22.75 inches. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $464.00
