Bill Clinton Signed Presentation Glove Used to Throw Out Opening Day Pitch On April 5, 1993

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $6,960.00

The tradition of U.S. Presidents throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the season dates back to 1910, when Howard Taft first accepted that honor from Washington Senators owner Clark Griffith. Today, that ritual has become one of baseball's most cherished events and has been continued by nearly every President over the past ninety-six years. Offered is the very glove worn by President Bill Clinton while throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on April 5, 1993 at Baltimore's Camden Yards. The Rawlings left-handed fielder's glove, Heart of the Hide model "AEA01, was specially produced for Clinton and bears his name "Bill Clinton" stamped on the front thumb. Below his stamped name, Clinton has signed the glove "Bill Clinton" in black Sharpie ("8"). Clinton's first pitch on that date was an all the more historic event in that he was the first President to deliver the pitch from the mound and not have it bounce to the catcher. This glove was later prominently displayed in the Baseball Hall of Fame for two years as part of a larger exhibit. In the course of our research we were able to learn (directly from Rawlings) that this was the only specially produced glove the company ever made for Clinton. This, the glove used by Clinton in the first opening day of his administration, is the finest Bill Clinton item relating to baseball in existence, and one that would serve as a centerpiece to any museum-quality baseball or Presidential display. The glove shows little wear and there is a very sight area of discoloration along the top edge of the thumb that slightly touches upon the "B" in Clinton's signature. The photograph is framed to dimensions of 12 x 15 inches and is signed by Clinton on the matting ("10"). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $6,960.00
