2001 Rusty Wallace Signed Racing Suit

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $812.00

Professional race uniform worn by legendary NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace in 2001. The Simpson brand suit bears the manufacturer's label in the collar, on the right breast, and on the left sleeve. "Future Suit 2 - 1723" is embroidered in blue along the reverse, directly below the collar. The uniform is beautifully decorated on the front, back, shoulders, and sleeves, with the numerous patches and embroidered logos of Wallace's many commercial sponsors, including Miller Lite, Mobil, Good Year, Ford, and Stevens Aviation. Wallace has signed the suit in black marker ("8") and added his car number "2" below his name. Top-quality professional racing uniforms are extremely elaborate and expensively produced fire-resistant outfits, more akin to a NASA space suit than a baseball or football uniform. They are also much more expensive, with new racing uniforms costing literally thousands of dollars. For that reason, few quality driver-worn examples ever appear in the marketplace. Named one of NASCAR's fifty greatest drivers in 1998, Wallace was the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in 1984. Five years later he won the Winston Cup Championship, beating out his good friend Dale Earnhardt by twelve points. Today, his fifty-five NASCAR wins places him 8th on NASCAR's all-time wins list. He also ranks among the top five money winners in NASCAR history. Included is a copy of a photo picturing Wallace wearing what appears to be this very suit. The zipper-front suit has no alterations and displays moderate wear. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $812.00
