Al Unser 1975 Indy 500 Race-Worn Helmet With Documenting Photograph
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Racing helmet worn by Al Unser during the running of the Indianapolis 500 in 1975, accompanied by a photograph of him holding this very helmet. The helmet features the name of his sponsor ("Viceroy") across the front painted in blue, with the name "Al Unser" scripted on each side. Four Harley-Davidson decals are applied, respectively, on the front, rear, and each side of the helmet. The helmet is accompanied by an 8 x 10-inch color photo of Unser posing with his Eagle/Offy car at the 1975 Indy 500 in which he is holding this very helmet. Al Unser is one of the true legends in the sport of auto racing. He is ranked fourth on the all-time list of CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) drivers and is one of only three drivers to have won the Indianapolis 500 four times. He is also the only driver to have both a sibling (brother Bobby) and son (Al Unser Jr.) win the Indy 500. Unser retired from auto racing in 1994 and in 1998 was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. While the 1975 Indy 500 witnessed Al Unser finishing 16th overall, it was still a victorious day for the Unser family, as Bobby Unser took home the trophy that year. The helmet displays heavy wear including numerous abrasions and scratches to the exterior. An outstanding opportunity to acquire a racing helmet worn by Al Unser in racing's most prestigious event. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
