Collection of thirty-seven different of the fifty cards comprising the N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" second series set, including two of the six baseball players (George Miller and James Ryan). N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" have long been recognized as one of the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. This near set includes many high-grade cards, including a few incredible "blazers" that would literally be at home in the finest N29 set in the world. The entire set is graded and encapsulated by GAI (unless otherwise noted). GAI Condition Report Composite: Thirty cards range from Excellent to Nr/Mt-Mt condition, seven cards range from G-Vg to Vg-Ex condition. The GAI grades are as follows: One NM-MT 8: Boyton (swimmer, PSA NM-MT 8). Eight NM 7: Bauer (wrestler, PSA NM 7), Bibby (wrestler, SGC NM 84), Carter (runner), Duffy (pugilist, PSA NM 7), J. Murphy (pugilist, PSA NM 7), Paulsen (skater, PSA NM 7), Queckberner (weight lifter), and Stone (cyclist, SGC NM+ 86). Twelve EX-MT 6: Albert (pedestrian), Daly (all-around athlete), East (oarsman), Fitzgerald (pedestrian), George (runner), Harradon (cyclist), McCormack (skater, PSA EX-MT 6), Myers (runner), O'Connor (oarsman), Ray (pole vaulter), Sears (tennis, SGC EX/NM 80), and Wood (cyclist, GAI EX-MT+ 6.5). Nine EX 5: Barry (hammer thrower), Clarke (pedestrian), Crist (cyclist), Ford (all-around athlete, GAI EX+ 5.5), Hill (club swinger), Page (high jumper), Rowe (cyclist), Slocum (tennis, GAI EX+ 5.5), and Webb (swimmer, PSA EX 5). Four VG-EX 4: Crocker (cyclist), Miller (baseball, PSA VG-EX 4), Ross (all-around athlete, GAI VG-EX+ 4.5), and Ryan (baseball, SGC VG/EX 50). One VG+ 3.5: Ives (cyclist). Two G-VG 2.5: Cummings (runner) and Pettitt (tennis). Almost all of the few lower-graded cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. This is a very attractive collection and a rare opportunity to acquire a foundation for the assembly of a high-quality complete set of N29 Allen & Ginter. Total 37 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,350.00
