Circa 1968 Detroit Tigers Pro Model Bat Collection (6)

Outstanding collection of six Detroit Tigers pro model bats dating from the club's 1968 World Championship era. Norm Cash: 1965-68 H&B signature model "MC44" bat. Heavy game use includes ball marks, tape at the base of the handle and a large thirteen-inch crack in the handle that extends into the centerboard. Factory records indicate shipments of these bats were sent to Cash between 7/15/66 and 3/6/67. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 33 ounces. MEARS grade: A7. Jim Northrup: 1971-79 Adirondack block letter (full name) model "155A" bat. Light use with no cracks. Inscribed "Jim Northrup - '68 World Champs" in black Sharpie ("10") below the barrel stamping. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 32 ounces. MEARS grade: A6. Gates Brown: 1969-72 H&B signature model "C242L" bat. No cracks with heavy game use including ball, rack and cleat marks. Signed by Brown in black Sharpie ("10") on the sweet spot of the barrel, with the black Sharpie notation "1968 Champs" scripted below the barrel stamping. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 31 ounces. MEARS grade: A8. Bill Freehan: 1965-68 H&B signature model "R161" bat. Freehan's name and uniform number ("Free - #11") are written in vintage green marker on the knob. Heavy use includes ball marks and a repaired fifteen-inch crack in the handle that extends into the center brand. Freehan has signed the bat in black Sharpie ("10") below the barrel stamping. Factory records indicate that the first order for these bats was placed on 4/19/68. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 32 ounces. MEARS grade: A8. Dick McAuliffe: 1961-64 H&B signature model "H176" bat. Moderate use includes a six-inch repaired crack in the handle. Signed by McAuliffe in blue Sharpie ("10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 31.5 ounces. MEARS grade: A7. Don Wert: 1965-68 H&B signature model "M110" bat. Moderate use with a seven-inch repaired crack in the handle. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 30.5 ounces. MEARS grade: A7. These bats have been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection of world-renowned bat authenticator David Bushing.
