Two Cap Anson Cabinet Cards (2)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,320.00
Two cabinet cards each featuring the preeminent baseball player of the nineteenth century: Adrian "Cap" Anson. 1) The first (4.25 x 6 inches) is an 1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinet with bottom of the mount trimmed. The mount also has a tack hole at the top and a slight crease along the lower left corner. The photo has some minor soiling. The reverse has some minor surface paper loss and tape in the corners from once having been mounted. Fair condition but still with great appeal as an affordable alternative to a higher-grade example. 2) The second cabinet photo (4.25 x 6.5 inches), circa 1900, dates from very shortly after Anson's retirement from the game. This mount has the embossed imprint and address of Spott Photographic Studios of Chicago. The photograph has outstanding clarity and contrast. The mount has a small chip in the upper left corner and a period ink notation on the reverse identifying Anson ("Capt Anson Retired, Home Chicago"). The mounted photograph is in Excellent condition. The cabinet card is in overall Very Good condition due to the flaws of the mount. Total: 2 cabinet cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $2,320.00
