1943-1949 Lou Boudreau Signed Pro Model Bat
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,480.00
H&B signature model "S2" bat displays significant use in the form of ball, bat-rack, cleat and deeply embedded stitch marks. A few minor chips are also evident on the end of the barrel. The provenance of the bat has been personally attested to by Boudreau himself, who has inscribed the bat "Lou Boudreau-my game used bat" in black marker ("9") along the sweet spot of the barrel. Further supporting Boudreau's testimony is the fact that H&B factory records document several shipments of this particular style bat to Boudreau throughout the 1940s. The first shipment was sent to Boudreau on 3/1/45, with the second order occurring on 7/21/47, and with several additional orders recorded through 1949. Lou Boudreau bats are extremely rare. This is the only Boudreau bat ever authenticated by MEARS, and in all his years, David Bushing has seen only one other example. Cleveland shortstop Lou Boudreau was at the top of his game between the years 1945 and 1949, batting over .300 on three occasions (including a career high .355 in 1948) and leading the league in fielding percentage from 1946 to 1948. He accomplished all that while also serving as manager, and leading Cleveland to the 1948 World Championship. A perennial All-Star selection, Boudreau retired in 1952 with a .295 lifetime average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1970. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 36 ounces. Graded A9.5 by MEARS. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
