Worn by Barry Bonds during his epic record-breaking 2001 season, this incredible ensemble includes not only a home jersey and pants, put also a hat, pair of cleats, team jacket and pair of wrist bands. 1) Home Jersey: the white knit jersey features the team name "Giants" lettered across the front and the number "25" on the reverse, each appliqu├ęd in black/orange/gold twill. A "Russell Athletic" label is located on the left front tail, below which a "Barry Bonds Authenticated" label has been applied. A Giants team patch appears on the left sleeve. Bonds has signed the jersey ("9") in silver marker on the numeral "5." 2) Home Pants: the matching white knit pants bear a "Russell Athletic 36" label in the waistband. Adjacent to the manufacturer's label is a white strip tag lettered "Bonds 36-38-35-01-T". A "Barry Bonds Authenticated" label has been affixed just to the right of the strip tag. Bonds has signed the pants in black Sharpie ("9") on the right leg. 3) Hat: the black wool cap (size 7-1/4) features the orange Giants team logo embroidered on the front and a New Era label along the interior band. Bonds' uniform number ("25") is written on the underside of the brim in black marker. Bonds has signed the cap in silver marker ("8-9") on the front, directly to the left of which has been affixed a Barry Bonds Authenticated hologram. 4) Cleats: pair of black and white Fila high-top cleats (size 11-1/2), each signed in silver marker ("8") on the side. A Barry Bonds Authenticated hologram has been affixed to each shoe. 5) Team Jacket: the black polyester jacket (pullover style, with half-zipper front) features the Giants team logo on the left breast in orange twill. Both a "Majestic" label and "XL" size tag are situated in the collar. Bonds' uniform number ("25") has been written in black marker on the manufacture's label. 6) Wrist Bands: a pair of orange Fila wristbands, each of which features Bonds' uniform number ("25") embroidered in black. The jersey, pants, and remainder of items display light wear. Virtually all Bonds jerseys, uniforms, bats and other equipment from this period (the height of the Bonds collecting craze) exhibit light use because Bonds was actively marketing all of his equipment at the time, and was wearing uniforms for a very limited time before making them available to the collecting community. In 2001 our consignor purchased this ensemble for the sum of $20,000, which, in the midst of the historic 2001 record-setting season, was very much in keeping with the then-current market value for Bonds items. This is the first complete 2001 Bonds uniform ensemble we have seen available at auction. Controversy has impacted values of Bonds memorabilia to some extent in recent years, but with Bonds on the verge of becoming baseball's all-time home run king next year, his place in the history of the game will continue to grow. The significance of a complete uniform ensemble from his record-setting season can easily be appreciated by collectors and noncollectors alike. This is an extraordinary Bonds uniform ensemble dating from the historic 2001 season. The jersey has been graded A10 by Mears. The remainder of the items have also been examined and are graded "Authentic." LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $9,280.00
