Circa 1984 Ozzie Smith Signed Game-Used Glove
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,800.00
Presented is the ultimate item to represent the player many consider to be the greatest fielder of his era: Ozzie Smith's glove. Dating from the mid 1980s, this Rawlings TG-12 right-handed fielder's glove features Smith's facsimile signature stamped on the front and a "Trap-eze" style webbing. Additionally, the glove features Smith's customary extra padding along the interior in the form of a sorbit pad (covered in deer skin leather) that is attached to the palm lacing with Velcro. That extra padding is characteristic of all Ozzie Smith gloves and was done exclusively for him by Rawlings. Smith has signed the glove in black marker (grading "9") directly above his facsimile signature. The glove displays moderate wear throughout, including a well broken-in pocket, and all of the original lacing remains intact. The greatest fielding shortstop of his era, perhaps of all-time, Smith garnered thirteen consecutive Gold Glove Awards between the years 1980 and 1992, a record for his position and the most by any National League player ever. Included among his other numerous accomplishments are fifteen All-Star Game appearances, 596 stolen bases and a number of important fielding records. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002, his first year of eligibility. Also includes LOA from renowned glove expert Dennis Esken. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $5,800.00
