1983 Don Sutton Milwaukee Brewers Signed Game-Used Road Jersey

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

1983 Milwaukee Brewers signed road jersey attributed to Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton. Both Don Sutton and catcher Bill Schroeder wore number "21" during the 1983 season. Despite the fact that the number on the back of the jersey is not uniquely attributable to either player, the size of the garment ("46") makes it a virtual certainty that this jersey was worn only by Don Sutton. A Bill Schroeder exemplar from 1985 by comparison is a size 42, which is considerably smaller. In addition, the jersey was a gift to our consignor directly from Don Sutton. The blue knit jersey is lettered "Milwaukee" across the front and features the number "21" on both the left breast and reverse. All letters and numbers are appliqu├ęd in blue on gold twill. Both a "Sand-Knit 46" label and Sand-Knit exclusivity label (reading "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Milwaukee Brewers") appear on the left front tail. Located on the rear interior tail is a white strip tag that bears the black marker notations "83" and "46T" (referring to the year and size, respectively). The jersey has been signed in black Sharpie on the front by Don Sutton ("8") and Tom Harper ("8"). The handwritten strip tag indicates that this jersey was probably used as an "extra" by the team. The jersey is accompanied by a pair of Milwaukee Brewers road pants issued to Jim Gantner in 1985 and a pair of blue stirrup socks. Located along the interior waistband of the blue knit pants are: a "Sand-Knit 32" label; a "Sand-Knit" exclusivity label; a white strip tag with "Gantner" written upon it in black marker; and a strip tag reading "85 32Z 25 1/2" (denoting the year, size and inseam, respectively). Both the jersey and pants are original and unaltered, displaying moderate wear throughout (including dirt stains along the legs of the pants). The jersey is graded A6 by MEARS. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $600/1,200. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
