1969 Felipe Alou Atlanta Braves Game-Used Home Flannel Jersey
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,204.00
Atlanta Braves home jersey worn by Felipe Alou in 1969. The white pinstripe flannel jersey is lettered "Braves" across the front and features the number "29" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in navy tackle twill. A Major League Baseball "100th Anniversary" patch (worn by all Major League clubs in 1969) appears on the right sleeve, while a Braves "Screaming Indian" patch adorns the opposite sleeve. The name "Alou," along with the year ("1969") and set number ("Set 3") are chain-stitched in black upon a strip tag in the collar. A "Wilson 42" label appears on the left front tail. The jersey is all original, with no alterations, and displays light wear throughout including a light stain (approximately 4 x 3.5 inches) in the collar. This particular jersey style was only employed by the Braves for the four-year period 1968 to 1971. Alou batted .282 in 1969, leading the Braves to the first ever National League West Division title (1969 marked the first season in which each League was divided into two divisions). Although the garment is not accompanied by any documentation to support its use during that inaugural NLCS, it stands to reason that the possibility certainly exists. Perhaps a future photo analysis will ultimately confirm or deny that possibility. Graded A9 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with one point deducted for the stain in the collar). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,204.00
