1968 Jack Aker Oakland A's Game-Used Road Flannel Jersey-One Year Style
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,160.00
Dating from the club's first season in Oakland, this rare, one-year-only style A's road flannel jersey was worn by journeyman pitcher Jack Aker in 1968. The gray vest-style jersey is lettered "Oakland" across the front and features the number "23" on the reverse. All letters and numbers are appliquéd in triple tackle twill (green on gold on green). Located on the left front tail are a "McAuliffe" label, a "68" year tag and a "44" size tag. The jersey is all original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear throughout. This particular gray road jersey style (which is very understated compared to owner Charles Finley's more flamboyant designs of later years) was only used by the club in 1968, its first year in Oakland. This style of jersey replaced their former solid-gold road version, which was still used that year, but only as an occasional alternate style. Apparently this gray jersey was not gaudy enough for Finley, as he returned to the gold road jerseys the following year, thus relegating this style as a classic "one year wonder." Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
