1888 R & S Artistic Series Baseball Complete Set (10)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $928.00

Complete set of ten 1888 R & S Artistic Series baseball diecuts. The uniforms of these colorful scrapbook diecuts represent baseball's major franchise cities of 1885, suggesting that that is the correct date of issue as opposed to 1888 as listed in guides: Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh from the National League, and Baltimore, Brooklyn and St. Louis from the American Association. Little is known about exactly how these diecuts were issued, but it is believed they were produced to be glued into scrapbooks, which was a very popular pastime of the day. This is a very attractive set of these rare and very colorful nineteenth-century baseball diecut cards, which represent one of the most outstanding values of all nineteenth-century card issues. The diecuts have some scrapbook paper or tape on their reverses and otherwise range from Very Good to Excellent condition. Total 10 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $928.00
