1962 Gino Cimoli Kansas City Athletics Signed Game-Used Road Uniform
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,160.00
In 1961 one of the most significant events in the evolution of Major League baseball uniforms took place: Charles Finley purchased the Kansas City Athletics. Within in just two short years Finley succeeded in turning the baseball world upside down with his break from traditional uniform styles and color schemes. Offered is a rare one-year style Kansas City A's flannel uniform worn by journeyman outfielder Gino Cimoli in 1962. This uniform, which incorporated the first "vest" jersey in American League history, was a transitional style that bridged the gap between the team's standard, traditional conservative uniform of 1961 and Finley's gaudy gold-and-green ensemble that debuted in 1963. The grey "vest-style" jersey is lettered "Athletics" across the front and features the number "4" on the reverse. All letters and numbers are appliquéd in blue on red twill. Located on the left front tail is a "Wilson 46" label. The matching pants feature a "Wilson 38" label in the waistband. Just to the left of the label is the number "9" in faded black marker. Manager Hank Bauer wore number "9" in 1962 and it is possible that these pants were worn by him that season. This particular ensemble originates from the legendary Barry Halper Collection and, as was Barry's custom, he had Cimoli sign the both the jersey and pants in blue Sharpie. The jersey is signed in the collar ("8"), while the pants have been autographed ("9") on the interior waistband. Both the jersey and pants are all original, with no alterations, and display light wear throughout. This is an exceptionally scarce complete 1962 Athletics uniform, with the added provenance of once being a part of the famous Halper Collection. The jersey is graded A10 by MEARS. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
