1958 Washington Senators Pro Model Cap
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $290.00
Attributed to pitcher Al Aber, this navy blue wool cap features a "W" embroidered in red on the front. Attached to the rear of the leather headband is a "7" size tag. No manufacturer's label is present. The name "Aber" is written in vintage black marker on the underside of the brim. Below Aber's name is another faint marker notation (possibly another name) that is illegible. Al Aber played in the Majors from 1950 to 1957 (he missed the 1951 and 1952 seasons due to military service), playing with Cleveland, Detroit, and Kansas City. In 1958 he tried out with the Senators, but did not make their final roster. That fact helps pinpoint the date of this cap to 1958. The Senators moved from Washington to Minnesota after the 1960 season, thus giving this very scarce cap style the additional significance of dating from the final years of one of baseball's most storied franchises. The cap displays moderate wear and is in Excellent condition. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/400. SOLD FOR $290.00
