Early 1960s Cincinnati Reds Game-Used Uniform Ensemble With 1961 Jim Brosnan Jersey
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,740.00
Offered is a rare 1960s Cincinnati Reds uniform ensemble comprised of a jersey, pants, hat, undershirt, and two pair of cleats: 1) 1961 Reds Road Jersey: the grey, vest-style flannel jersey is lettered "Cincinnati" across the front and displays the number "42" on both the left breast and reverse. All letters and numbers have been appliquéd in red on blue tackle twill. A "MacGregor 44" label appears in the collar. Located on the interior right front tail is a flag tag that reads "Set 2 1961." The mourning band has been removed from the left armhole and there is slight separation between the garment and the numeral "2" on the reverse. Aside from the mourning band having been removed, the garment is original and unaltered, displaying moderate wear throughout. Pitcher Jim Brosnan wore number 42 in 1961 and while there is no way of knowing for certain, it's possible this jersey was worn by him during the 1961 World Series. 2) 1963 Reds Road Pants: Located in the waistband of the flannel road pants are both a "MacGregor 36" label and another MacGregor label that reads "Set 1 1963." Two names ("Krop" and "Fodor"), as well as a number ("23") are written along the waistband in vintage black marker, indicating that the pants were most likely sent down for use in the minor leagues or used during subsequent spring training sessions. The pants, which are original and unaltered, display heavy wear including a number of tears and staining. 3) Circa 1962 Reds Cap: the well-worn wool cap features a red brim and a red "C" on the front. The cap displays heavy wear including staining along the top and tears along the interior headband. No manufacturer's tags are present. 4) Circa 1962 Reds Undershirt: the red long sleeve undershirt bears a "Rawlings 46" label in the collar. The shirt displays extensive wear including numerous tears (primarily along the collar area). 5) Two Pair of Solid Black Cleats: each cleat is a Wilson size 11 shoe. One pair is brand new, displaying no use, while the other displays heavy use. The right shoe of each pair has a manufacturer's applied pitching toe. All of these items were originally obtained together from Jim Brosnan. The jersey has been graded A8.5 by MEARS (with one point deducted for the armband removal and a half point deducted for the separation along the reverse numeral "2"). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Total: 6 items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,740.00
