1957 Joe Adcock Milwaukee Braves Signed Game-Used Road Flannel Jersey

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,900.00

Milwaukee Braves flannel jersey, with zipper front, worn by Joe Adcock during the club's 1957 World Championship season. The gray road jersey features both the team name, "Braves," and its familiar "tomahawk logo" displayed across the chest. The number "9" appears on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliqu├ęd in red-on-black felt. A Braves "screaming Indian" patch is located on the left sleeve. The name "Adcock" is chain-stitched in red upon a white strip tag in the collar. Sewn on the left front tail, in descending order, are a "Wilson 44" label, a wash tag, and a white strip tag featuring the year, "1957," chain-stitched in red. Adcock has inscribed the jersey "Joe Adcock-1957 World Champs" in black Sharpie (grading "9") on the right breast. Both the front and reverse numbers have been restored (with vintage, original numerals); otherwise the garment is all original. Light wear is evident throughout, including a few scattered areas of light staining. Adcock was one of the era's most feared sluggers. He was, unfortunately, plagued by injuries for much of his career: 1957 was no exception, as he broke his leg in June and eventually missed eighty-nine games. Luckily he was able to return late in the season and helped contribute to the club's World Championship by appearing in five of the seven World Series games. He eventually retired in 1966 with 336 home runs, 1,112 RBI and a .277 average. At the time of his retirement, his home run total ranked twentieth all-time and seventh for right-handed hitters. Graded A7.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 2 points deducted for the vintage number change, and one-half point deducted for the light staining). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,900.00
