1967 Mickey Mantle Armour Franks Advertising Sign
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,900.00
Extremely rare point-of-sale advertising sign, issued in promotion of Armour Franks, picturing an illustrated image of Mickey Mantle in the lower left. This is a gorgeous display piece and an incredible rarity. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of only three examples known. All three were discovered together. We had never seen this piece prior to this discovery. One has been previously sold, one has been kept in the collection of our consignor. The offered example is the third and last of the three. The colorful sign prominently features an illustration of the company's coupon redemption prize, a Rawlings Mickey Mantle glove, and reads "MOM! Be a hero to your Little Leaguer! Get this Mickey Mantle Genuine Rawlings Fielder's Glove-Only $5.00 with Coupon from special packages of Armour Franks." Printed alongside the glove are its many attributes, including the fact that its design is "New for 1967." Hot dogs and baseball have always had a special connection. Over the years, several promotions by Armour Franks involved baseball, most notably the issuing of plastic coins featuring baseball players (1955 to 1960). Although the list of Mickey Mantle endorsed items may seem endless, this particular advertising piece is one of the rarest and most attractive from the era and a true collecting gem. The sign (11 x 7 inches) displays a very light one-inch surface wrinkle along the left border and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,900.00
