Player-Endorsed Baseball Advertising Display Collection (22)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,770.00

Endorsements: the staple of the advertising industry and the source of supplemental income for sports stars and celebrities alike. And a boon for the collecting community, as those endorsements are often conveyed to the public by means of colorful display pieces. The spectacular visual appeal offered by the displays, combined with their inherent nostalgic appeal, has resulted in their great popularity among collectors today. Offered here is an extraordinary collection of vintage player-endorsed advertising displays dating primarily from the 1930s through the 1950s. This collection has been carefully assembled from a much larger collection of literally hundreds of baseball advertising pieces which included many of the finest and most highly valued of all baseball advertising displays. The most valuable baseball advertising display pieces sell for thousands, and in many cases tens of thousands of dollars. However, many baseball advertising pieces of tremendous quality are valued far more modestly, often in the hundreds as opposed to the thousands of dollars, which share some or all of the same museum-quality attributes of the collecting world's most widely recognized advertising display classics. This collection of advertising pieces is comprised of twenty-two of these high quality, and in many cases extremely rare, displays featuring player endorsements. Each is ideal for framing and display. The collection can be viewed in its entirety on our web site. A brief list, including the player(s) featured, the product, the dimensions (in inches) and the condition of the piece, follows: 1) Leo Durocher, Chesterfield Cigarettes, 21 x 22, Vg-Ex. 2) Gil Hodges, Aqua Velva, 11 x 12.5, Ex. 3) Gil Hodges, Chesterfield Cigarettes, 21 x 22, Gd-Vg. 4) Johnny Mize, Granger Tobacco, 14.5 x 19.5, Vg-Ex. 5) Frank McCormick, Chesterfield Cigarettes, 20.5 x 10.5, Gd-Vg. 6) Grover Alexander and Clarence Mitchell, Maas & Steffen, Inc. (grading "10"), Vg-Ex. 18) Waite Hoyt, Lucky Strike, 17.5 x 10.5, Fr (incomplete). 19) Bob Feller, Dreamsicle, 20 x 7.5, Ex. 20) Ducky Medwick, Granger Tobacco, 14 x 20, Vg-Ex. 21) 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates, Iron City Beer, 33 x 17, Gd. 22) Waite Hoyt, product unknown ("Cream of the Crop" lettered along the base), this is part of a much larger display, 14 x 22, Gd. All but seven of the pieces have been framed (or matted and framed) to larger dimensions.
