1910s to 1950s Generic Baseball Advertising Display Collection (14)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00

The allure of our National Pastime has never been lost on Madison Avenue. That fact is beautifully demonstrated here in this striking collection of fourteen generic advertising pieces, the majority of which date from the 1930s through the 1950s (includes two dating from circa 1910). All of the pieces merge bold and vibrant colors with attractive baseball-related images to promote interest in products ranging from tobacco to baseball equipment. These are scarce, high-quality advertising pieces, each worthy of display individually or together, with visual appeal similar to some of the most valuable of all baseball-theme advertising pieces. The collection can be viewed in its entirety online. 1) Beech-Nut Tobacco: die-cut cardboard display, 26 x 38 inches, Gd. 2) Red Jacket Tobacco: 20 x 26.5 inches, Ex. 3) Spalding: for its AAA Baseball, 40 x 10 inches, Vg. 4) Marathon Lager Beer: 14 x 22 inches, Vg-Ex. 5) Cook's Goldblume Beer: 15 x 19 inches, Gd, housed in original advertising frame. 6) Sloan's Liniment: 20 x 10 inches, Gd.7) Wings Cigarettes: 19 x 29 inches, Gd-Vg. 8) Turret Tobacco: 20 x 34.5 inches, Gd. 9) Spalding: die-cut cardboard display, with easel back, for general baseball equipment, 18 x 22 inches, Vg. 10) Velvet Tobacco: die-cut cardboard display, 20 x 34 inches, Gd. 11) Pinch Hit Tobacco: 13 x 10 inches, Ex. 12) Hillerich & Bradsby: double-sided tin advertising sign that once adorned the top of an H&B metal bat rack, 16 x 7.5 inches, Vg. 13-14) two individual large-format pages from a circa 1910 Ed. V. Price & Co. Merchant Tailor catalog. Each illustrated page (13 x 19 inches) features the company's models conversing with a ballplayer at the park. One Ex-Mt, the other Vg. The technically accurate grades often do not do justice to display pieces such as these. Each piece presents beautifully with a strong and impressive visual appeal. All but three of the pieces (H&B sign, Spalding die-cut display, and Velvet Tobacco) have been framed to larger dimensions. Please note: due to the number of large framed items in this collection, the shipping charges for this lot (depending on where it is sent and method of shipping) may be substantial. Total: 14 items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+.
