Circa 1920 Ty Cobb "Zinn Beck" Pro Model Bat
Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $8,120.00
This Zinn Beck professional model bat has "Cobb Model" stamped in block letters on the barrel. The bat exhibits moderate game use including deadwood on the back of the barrel. The bat matches known length and weight specifications for Cobb gamers. The fact that this bat is hand-turned with a lathe on both ends indicates that special care was taken when custom making this bat. Zinn Bertram Beck spent parts of five years as a player in the Major Leagues in St. Louis and New York before retiring from the game as a player in 1918 to be a professional bat maker for players in the major and minor leagues. Based in Greenville, South Carolina, Zinn Beck's small shop made custom bats for many players. There is no evidence to suggest that Zinn Beck bats were ever available for sale to the general public (no advertisements, catalog, etc.). His was a small company. The side written Zinn bats that are known are all to the precise specifications of the given player, strongly suggesting that all Zinn Beck bats were made exclusively by custom order for professional use only by the given player. Length: 34 inches. Weight : 36 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A5. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000. SOLD FOR $8,120.00
